Law and Gospel Booklet

Law and gospel—these two words are distinguished throughout Scripture: wrath is contrasted with mercy, being an enemy is contrasted with being reconciled, being a debtor with an heir, a servant with a son, and being dead and condemned with being alive and justified.
Understanding the difference between law and gospel opens the Scriptures to faithful understanding. But failing to distinguish law and gospel in God’s word can do significant damage to the faith of the Good Shepherd’s beloved sheep. Confusing law and gospel is dangerous because it leads the sheep away from Christ and into pride, despair, or a false sense of security.
As a special thank you for your gift of any amount, we’ll send our new booklet by White Horse Inn co-hosts Michael Horton and Bob Hiller. In this booklet, we explain the essential biblical distinction between law and gospel, helping readers see how these categories are derived from Scripture, recovered in the sixteenth-century Reformation, and applied to daily life.
